If you still remember your last job application, then you will know how difficult it can be to write about yourself. I feel the same way about this text, the difference being that I’ve luckily already got the job!
Hi, my name is Elena. Since January, I have been Valeriana’s new Social Impact Community Manager. Among other things, I am behind the stories that you have been reading on here. In addition, I am usually also the person who handles your concerns and inquiries — usually in writing, but sometimes also by phone. I also handle staff coordination and try my best to keep all sides happy at all times. So, lots of social, lots of impact and lots of managing!
The way I got here was eventful, to say the least. After finishing school in Germany, I did an apprenticeship as an editor at a local culture magazine. Then I did a bachelor’s degree in Art, Music and Media, with a focus on Organisation and Outreach. And then? Well, I probably felt the same way as many others who study something media-related: I was completely clueless about what to do next.
More by chance than anything else, I landed a job with a Berlin-based production company specialising in explainer videos. And I got to explain all kinds of things: from German development policy and biodiesel to self-adhesive wallpaper. At the end of 2016, I not only chose to move to Switzerland, but also completed shifted career gears (once again). After a year in horticulture, I realised that I wasn’t the crafty type after all... and was just as clueless as I was before! But if I had learned anything up to that point, then it was that in the end, everything turns out exactly as it should.
My next station was the Impact Hub Zurich, where, while working as a Space Coordinator, I was lucky enough to meet Bora and Salomé. And the rest is history.
What I am now really looking forward to is to slowly take off Valeriana’s training wheels and teach her how to ride all on her own. It’s going to be a wild ride, but also a fun one, I’m sure! And I’m really excited that you’re joining us :)
PS: If you’d like to read more about me/us: This Friday, we’ll be launching a newsletter — woohoo! The newsletter will provide you with news and smaller as well as bigger announcements in regularly irregular intervals (i.e.: based on whether we feel like it at that particular moment)! So, if you haven’t done it yet, make sure you subscribe so that you can be there when we release the first one! To do so, just scroll down a little further ;)
