Amila is our new social impact community manager and therefore the new face of customer and employee happiness at Valeriana. We’re already super excited to work with Amila on making Valeriana thrive even more. In that sense: welcome to the team, Amila!
“Helping people, no matter how small the help” is the credo that has permeated Amila’s whole career. She came to Switzerland from Bosnia when she was four years old and spent most of her childhood in Pratteln (Basle-Country), an international community home to people from almost 100 different countries. There, she learned to combine the best of the two mentalities of her old and her new home.
Amila continued her international path by qualifying as a tourism specialist, welcoming foreign guests as a hotel receptionist and later in the customer service department of a car rental company. At some point, this was not enough for her, and she wanted to find a way to do more good.
After studying international management (ha, there we go again) and stints abroad in China and Mexico, she discovered the world of development cooperation and humanitarian aid. While working as a fundraiser at Terre des hommes in Zurich and Lausanne, she secured funding for projects for children in need. In 2017, she obtained her master’s degree in — here it comes again — International Studies and Diplomacy in London.
Before making her way to Valeriana, she briefly worked at Swisscontact, an NGO in Zurich that specialises in providing technical knowledge in developing countries. There, she organised worldwide consulting assignments for medium-sized companies abroad.
After that, she initially planned on taking some time off, but when she saw Valeriana’s job ad, her heart started beating faster. As a child, she had wanted to become either an archaeologist, a journalist in crisis areas or a detective. In her free time, Amila likes to read and listen to podcasts, and is currently getting into crypto.
